Prep Time: 10 minutes
Fermentation Time: 24-48 hours
Total Time: 24-48 hours + 10 minutes
Servings: 4 cups
Ingredients:
- Coconut Cream – 2 cans (13.5 oz each) Buy Here (opens in new window)
- Probiotic Capsules – 1-2 capsules (make sure they have at least 5 billion CFUs) Buy Here (opens in new window)
- Honey or Maple Syrup (optional, for sweetness) – 2-3 tablespoons Buy Here (opens in new window)
- Salt – a pinch (optional)
Instructions:
Step 1: Prepare the Coconut Base
- Open the Cans: Carefully open the cans of coconut cream. Stir well to combine the thick cream and any liquid.
- Transfer to a Bowl: Pour the coconut cream into a clean mixing bowl.
Step 2: Add Probiotics
- Open Probiotic Capsules: Take 1-2 probiotic capsules and pour the contents into the bowl with coconut cream. Discard the empty capsules.
- Mix Thoroughly: Using a clean whisk or spoon, mix the probiotics into the coconut cream until smooth. If desired, add honey or maple syrup for sweetness and a pinch of salt.
Step 3: Ferment
- Transfer to a Jar: Pour the mixture into a clean glass jar, leaving some space at the top for expansion during fermentation.
- Cover Jar: Loosely cover the jar with a clean cloth or a coffee filter, securing it with a rubber band. This allows air to enter while protecting from dust.
- Choose a Fermentation Spot: Place the jar in a warm, dark place (ideally around 110°F or 43°C) for 24-48 hours. The longer it ferments, the tangier it will become.
Step 4: Check & Refrigerate
- Taste Testing: After 24 hours, taste the yogurt. If it’s tangy enough for your liking, it’s ready. If not, leave it fermenting for another 12-24 hours.
- Storage: Once fermented to your liking, stir it well, then cover it tightly and refrigerate. The yogurt will thicken as it cools.
Step 5: Enjoy!
- Serve your homemade coconut yogurt with fresh fruit, granola, or as a base for smoothies.
Tips:
- Once you’ve successfully made your yogurt, you can use a few tablespoons of it as a starter for your next batch!
- Experiment with flavors by adding vanilla extract or spices like cinnamon during the mixing stage.
Storage:
Homemade coconut yogurt will keep in the refrigerator for about a week.
Now enjoy a delicious, creamy, and gut-friendly coconut yogurt that you’ve made yourself! 🌱🥥
